Shukno Lanka, Ami Subhas Bolchi, Nobel Chor, Hassan Raja ... these cannot be called out-and-out commercial films. So, do we get to see Mithun Chakraborty only in parallel cinema from now on?
I think, it is the media that creates this difference.
1x1 polls
When I am doing MLA Fatakeshto, they say, When do we get to see you in a parallel film? And when I am acting in parallel films, they invariably complain, Wont you act in a commercial film? Let me clarify, Im an actor. So, I am open to all kinds of films, provided I am satisfied with the script and my character. I will soon be doing Gunda Fatakeshto, which is a commercial flick!
Do you give your nod to only those projects which have the potential to bring home awards?
When a director reads a script to me, I can clearly visualize my character then and there. The script-reading session has to give me a high for me to give my nod. When a student does his homework, he doesnt know if his teacher will mark him as excellent or treat his work like every other students . He can only hope to score good marks and give it his best. Incidentally, if the child gets an excellent, then surely, he would feel good. Likewise, I dont think of awards when I perform, nor do I choose roles that will fetch me the same. I only put in my best when I act.

Chinu Nandi of Shukno Lanka or Bhanu of Nobel Chor which is closer to your heart?
Both are! But the two are completely different characters. Chinu Nandi was an aspiring junior artiste, who used to dream big while Bhanu is an innocent farmer, who wants to sell the Nobel to live a better life. I loved my role in ASB too and I am sure after watching the film, every Bengali will feel proud to be born as a Bangali.
Superstar Mithun or actor Mithun which is a more appropriate term to describe you?
(Laughs) Well, one can never become a superstar unless he or she is a good actor. I am just an actor, who is still trying to perform better with each passing day.
Businessman Mithun or actor Mithun, which comes first?
Actor Mithun.
Husband Mithun or father Mithun, where do you score more?
As a father, of course! Like all other husbands, I also, sometimes, take my wife for granted and vice versa.
Your son, Mimoh, still hasnt been able to get a firm foothold in the industry, despite being your son. As a father, arent you worried ?
Like all fathers, I am also worried about my childrens future. I am sure Mimoh will be able to stand on his own feet one day. His past failures will make him a strong man to perform and fight for his career. Remember, Gourango took time to become Mithun Chakraborty.
What is the magic of Mithun? Why do you think the craze is still there?
Well, I would like to use the word, love instead of craze. Mithun Chakrabortys magic is his honesty, modesty and above all his human side. To the masses, I am not larger than life, but a normal human being people can relate to.
You are one actor who has worked with more than 250 heroines. Any particular favourite co-star youd like to be paired with in future?
Padmini Kolhapure and Ranjita, both, were my lucky charms. I wish the film Zindagi Tere Naam , which I did with Ranjita, could see the light of the day.
Is it true that you have a tremendous fan following in Russia and China?
(Laughs) I would say people love me there.
Mimoh said in an interview that any girl he wants to date invariably falls for you...
Mimoh has to realize that his father is hot! Cant help it. And nowadays, young girls fall for older men! Added to that, Im a womans hero. But jokes apart, Mimoh still hasnt been able to make his mark. The day he will be able to make a name, girls will make a beeline for him. Life is like that!
People are extremely scared of your mood swings....
(Laughs) I am also a human being and cant be in my best mood always! I too have my problems, tensions...
The elections are just a few days away and people feel that the paribartoner hawa is blowing strong. Your take?
Paribarton is always welcome but not only by changing faces and chairs. The real paribarton has to come from within. We want paribarton in the socio-economic scenario for the betterment of the people of the state.
Does Mithun ever say sorry to anyone? Or does his ego come in between?
To err is human...ami to manush. If I make a mistake, I definitely say sorry, no matter who it is.
