Singer Mekhla Dasgupta has unveiled Bengal’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered song,
Bharatbarsho, a tribute to the “Bidrohi Kobi” Kazi Nazrul Islam. The project marks a pioneering blend of technology and heritage, reviving the poet’s timeless creations for a new generation.
Through her soulful rendition, Mekhla sought to reimagine Nazrul’s revolutionary call that once stirred the nation during colonial times. “Kazi Nazrul Islam’s creations were not just songs; they were a call to awaken the nation’s spirit. With the help of Artificial Intelligence, I re-imagined that same call for today’s generation. My aim was to make people feel proud of our heritage, to reconnect with our magnificent history, and to experience it in a way that resonates with the present. This project was both a tribute to the past and a bridge to the future,” she said.
A key highlight of
Bharatbarsho is its use of AI-powered visuals, which animate black-and-white photographs of eminent artists and historical figures. This immersive element allows audiences to engage with India’s cultural and patriotic legacy in a strikingly modern way.
Nazrul, remembered as one of India’s most influential poets, was a fierce patriot whose songs and writings uplifted the spirit of a colonized nation. His works celebrated India’s achievements in philosophy, astronomy, Ayurveda, mathematics, music, and art, inspiring generations well beyond Independence.
By combining cutting-edge technology with Nazrul’s immortal words,
Bharatbarsho not only pays homage to history but also introduces it afresh to contemporary audiences.
