Tathagata Ghosh
whose short film ‘Miss Man’ had received appreciation from all corners has come up with yet another hard-hitting short ‘Mangsho - The Meat’. It’s a disturbing yet engaging short film that sums up the director’s thoughts on hate-politics and how the migrant labourers are suffering during the
lockdown
.
According to Tathagata, certain important issues, that are haunting him during this lockdown, have forced him to make this film. Within the limitations he has focused on content instead of experimenting with technicalities giving creative expression to his restless mind.
Starring
Bimal Giri
,
Soumya Majumdar
,
Payel Rakshit
, and
Gautam Siddhartha
, the short film points at the irresponsible attitude of the government towards migrant workers and the petty vote-bank politics surrounding it. Ghosh is also deeply affected by the rising instances of Islamophobia throughout the country. He has weaved the issue of hate-politics into the narrative as well.
The idea of making the entire film within the frame of a video call between two characters, has also saved the director from worrying too much about cinematography. The film revolves around a Muslim couple from the not-so-privileged background, who go for a name change to find employment during the lockdown.
