Mainak's on a roll
Mainak Banerjea is on a roll. Even before any of his ventures have seen the light of day, this model-turned-actor has signed his third project directed by Shyamal Bose.
Titled Net, the film deals with a pertinent social issue, the vicious circle of human trafficking, women abuse and flesh trade. Its a love story woven around this pivotal theme and boasts of a cast of Soumi Banerjee, Priyanka Banerjee, Bhaskar Banerjee and Dolon Roy.
The director reasons why he chose such a topic, It is not always the parents fault when their kids go astray.

The environment also is equally responsible in a childs upbringing. I want to send out a message that in todays advanced time, parents need to understand their children too. Incidentally, the directors first film, Notun Surjo, with a cast of Bhaskar Banerjee, Somasree Chaki and Piyali Munshi also deals with the socially relevant theme of eye donation. While this one is expected to hit theatres in June, Net is set for a tentative July release. Shyamal, however, has already put his mind in his next two projects.
One will be called Purba Paschim and shot entirely in Bangladesh and Malaysia. This one will feature Dolon Roy, Panchali Bose and hopefully, Mainak. The other will be tentatively named Bastab. This one will deal with the hard hitting fact of how elderly people lead their lives. And I have Soumitra Chatterjee in mind for this project. In fact, if he cannot do this venture, then I have no intentions of starting this project, the director is crystal clear about his intentions. And when it comes to intentions, even Mainaks ideas are all chalked out. Ask him why he is busy inking deals even though none of his films have yet released and the actor confidently opines, I am getting offers but Im being discreet and counting on my judgment when it comes to giving my nod for the project. In fact, Im not choosing run-off-the-mill films just to boost my image. I have no intentions of being a pain to my audience. Rather I want to entertain them. After all, its the film and script that will put me in the heroes place.
It was the script of Net that caught Mainaks attention and he decided to give his nod for the project. That apart, the film also sees me playing the lead character of a person whose girlfriend is sucked into the trafficking net, he continues, adding, It all starts when a guy befriends my love interest over the Net. Hence, this title. Though this is Mainaks third film, it will be the first to release and he thinks this is an ideal film to debut with. Hopefully, he will be proved right.
