Mainak Bhaumik’s upcoming film ‘Ekannoborti’ focuses on familial bond, tradition and spirit of positivity through a Durga
Puja reunion. The family drama, written by Mainak himself, stars
Aparajita Adhya, Sauraseni Maitra,
Alokananda Roy, Ananya Sen among others in key roles.
According to the director, the main essence of the film is showing familial bonds in a light-hearted mood. It’s a sweet story of a family which used to be a joint one once but then disintegrated into isolated units over the years.
During the household Durga Puja of this Banerjee family, the members reunite after a long time. As the Puja festivities start, the once empty and silent bonedi bari comes alive and the festive chaos fills everyone’s heart.
“Ekannoborti is a film that celebrates the joint family at a time when people are scattered all over the place, and revolves around the barir puja, which is slowly becoming extinct. It’s a happy, funny, sad, sweet drama that hopes to remind us Bengalis of our true family spirit of positivity during such depressing times. A quick reminder that Puja is all about the family,” explained Mainak while speaking to ETimes.
Mainak’s last film ‘Cheeni’ had shed light on the ever-changing dynamics between a mother (Aparajita Adhya) and her daughter (Madhumita Sarcar). The bittersweet moments between the mother and daughter in the film won audience hearts.
