‘Mahalaya’ trailer to release on February 10

Soumik Sen’s next ‘Mahalaya’, featuring Jisshu Sengupta in the lead, has already raised the curiosity bar ever since it was announced and now the trailer release date of the film has been confirmed by the makers. ‘Mahalaya’ trailer will release on February 10.
Bankrolled by Prosenjit Chatterjee’s home production Nideas, it’s based on the controversy surrounding Bengal's famous 'Mahisasuramardini' program aired on radio, to celebrate the advent of 'Devi Paksha' during Durga Puja.
While Subhashish Mukherjee will be seen as Birendra Krishna Bhadra, Jisshu Sengupta will play Uttam Kumar in the film.
The story revolves around the public outrage in 1976 following Akashvani Kolkata’s controversial replacement of Birendra Krishna Bhadra with Uttam Kumar for Mahisasurmardini, a program to welcome goddess Durga to earth.
Birendra Krishna’s Sanskrit recitation dedicated to goddess Durga in Mahisasurmardini became so famous and deeply embedded in the Bengali psyche that even 'Mahanayak' Uttam Kumar had to face severe public outrage when replacing the legend.
