After winning awards and accolades at several international film festivals, ‘Probaho’ was recently screened at the Indo-German Film Week, as the only Bengali short film entry at the festival. The first ever short film with the veteran Bengali actress Madhabi Mukherjee in the lead and as the only cast has also got officially selected for NABC this year.

Probaho is a poignant tale of Mrinmoyee (Madhabi Mukherjee) who has lost her family in the pandemic and has seen too many deaths around. How she deals with the unprecedented crisis all by herself and manages to embrace life with a whole new perspective and positivity forms the storyline, delicately told by Promita.

The short film has earned Promita quite a few awards across the world and has been officially selected at many prestigious international film festivals. Her previous short film ‘Porichoy’ (The Identity), starring two brilliant names from Tollywood Sudipta Chakraborty and Konnenica Bandyopadhyay, also received official selections and awards at several global film festivals. ‘Porichoy’ tries to explore self-identity and what it could mean for a woman in today’s India.

An award-winning Bengali poet, writer, and translator, Promita ditched her MBBS course to study Bengali literature and eventually landed in the world of filmmaking. She is now ready with the script of her first feature film and looking forward to further proceedings.
