Luchi, chholar dal and sustainable fashion: Chitrangada and Sambit celebrate their summer wedding in style
In January, Covid played a spoilsport in their wedding. With the third wave, Chitrangada Satarupa and her longtime beau were forced to postpone their wedding that was scheduled to take place on January 9. Finally, the duo did their registry marriage on Sunday evening in an intimate family event. The ceremony took place at Sambit's father
“After we signed, Sambit said, ‘Finally, we did it’. It involved a lot of drama since the third wave of pandemic upset all our plans. Hence, we did not even wait for the summer to go. The bigger celebration will take place once the weather becomes bearable. But we signed and got married anyway,” said the bride, who was all decked up in fiery red muslin.
“My mother gave me this sari. It is made by a local artisan. Since it was a summer wedding, I wanted to wear something light. I am very particular in what I wear. I am not a designer’s person. I support homegrown artisans and sustainable fashion. Ma bought me this sari keeping my ideas in mind. I physically went and selected the blouse borders, etc, from New Market. I find it easier to plan my own attire than explaining everything to a designer,” she said.
According to sources, the wedding took place at around 6.30 pm. There were Bengali delicacies, including luchi and cholar dal, on the menu. The bigger celebration is scheduled to take place in winter. “There will be wedding rituals that are not misogynistic in nature. I want all my relatives and friends to take part in my wedding,”
