Love of cinema will make you a better human being: Buddhadeb Dasgupta



The department of Media Sciences of the Heritage Academy organised a two-day film festival on the campus recently. The festival was inaugurated by Bengali filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta. More than 20 institutions across the city participated in the festival, which had 80 films made by the students.

During the inaugural speech, Dasgupta said that he was very impressed and inspired by the way the students organised the festival in such a short period of time. Besides, he said, he advised the students to get more associated with films since it can mould one’s life towards success. “It’s a great thing to have cinema with you. The love for moving images will make you a better human being,” Dasgupta added during the event.

The inaugural ceremony of the festival also witnessed screening of the film, Ei Toh Jibon, produced by The Heritage Academy and Prof Ramendra Singh, IIM-C. While the film was directed by Rajesh Shinde, professor of the media science department, the students were also actively involved in the making. The film was featured in the Ismalia Film Festival,

Egypt

. The film revolves around the lives of slum-dwellers around Kolkata.

Ashoke Vishwanathan, dean, SRFTI Kolkata, was also present at the festival. The second day of the event witnessed an address by director Srijit Mukherjee, followed by an address by Chandril Bhattacharya. There was also an interaction with the team of the film, Vinci Da.
