Looking back at the maverick

It was the perfect way to beat midweek blues. On Wednesday, a literary meet was held on filmmaker extraordinaire Ritwik Ghatak at a city club. Ghatak continues to live through his films. His meticulous depiction of social reality with brutal honesty is commendable. Im a huge admirer of his works, said composer Anindya Chattopadhyay. Two senior technicians Ujjal Bandopadhyay, assistant scriptwriter of Jukti Tokko Goppo, and Ranjit Sengupta, who assisted the stalwart in various masterpieces like Bari Theke Paliye, Komol Gandhar and Meghe Dhaka Tara, were felicitated at the event.
Madhabi Mukherjee, the leading lady of Subarnarekha, said, It is a lifetime experience to work with a director of his stature. I feel honoured to have been a part of his projects. Ghataks vision, screenplay, direction were unique in their own way. The evening also unveiled many unknown facts of the filmmaker. Todays meet on the master filmmaker enlightened me more on the maverick and his works, said Saswata Chatterjee.
