The fifth day of the 13th Coal India Kolkata Literary Meet featured discussions on literature, music, and history, with sessions covering diverse themes from classical texts to contemporary love stories.

Devdutt Pattanaik opened the morning with a discussion on his book Sati Savitri. Sessions followed on Saradindu Bandopadhyay and Michael Madhusudan Dutta, with Biswajit Ray and Pracheta Gupta reflecting on Bandopadhyay’s work, while Ananda Lal examined one of Dutta’s rare English plays.
Anuja Chauhan, Durjoy Datta, Novoneel Chakraborty, and Swati Hegde discussed gender perspectives in writing love stories. Prayaag Akbar and Sheena Patel explored the role of personal devices in modern relationships. A session on 1970s Indian music featured Anirudha Bhattacharjee, Nirupam Kotru, Ratnottama Sengupta, and Shantanu Ray Chaudhuri.

Upamanyu Chatterjee spoke about his JCB Prize for Literature-winning book Lorenzo Searches for the Meaning of Life. Amol Palekar and Sandhya Gokhale discussed Palekar’s memoir Viewfinder. William Dalrymple presented his latest work on India’s global influence.
