Dibyendu, along with Rupankar, Arka, Somlata and others, has lent his voice to an album titled Lal Nishan that is being presented by Left-minded celebsIn order to woo the young voters, Left-minded celebs in Kolkata are presenting an album titled Lal Nishan. Moving beyond ganasangeet that has been associated with the Left movement, this album has nine songs that are expected to appeal to those listeners who have a taste for hip hop, Latino, rock and pop music.
Says director Saron Datta, who is part of the cultural organization called Tuneer that is presenting the album, Our organization comprises the likes of Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Badsha Moitra,
Chandan Sen, Usha Ganguli, Wasim Kapoor, Arindam Sil, Sambaran Banerjee and Sudip Mukherjee, among others. We understand that this is a difficult time for the Left. We want to help it. There is a danger of the ultra-Left and Rightist forces merging together. We want to prevent it. Decades ago, there was a trend of listening to ganasangeet. Todays youth is keen on a different kind of a sound. This album has been designed to cater to this new sound that will reach out to the new generation.
Ask Saron about the polarization of intellectuals in Bengal now and he says, I dont understand why there such a hue and cry made over this. Personal likes and dislikes have always been there in all fields. Not just political ideologies, even in our families and professional lives we have our own favourites. I dont know why people are so touchy about the amra-ora issue now.
Incidentally, Saron has also penned the lyrics of some of the songs in the album. Though the album has been presented by Left-minded people, those who have sung in the album have done it from a completely professional perspective. The singers include Somlata, Rupankar, Dibyendu, Arka and Anita, among others. The music has been scored by Rajkumar, Shoumik and Arka, Saron adds. Says Dibyendu, I am not politically inclined. This is a professional exercise for me and I have tried to sing the song well. Thats it though I must add that I sincerely hope that Bengal prospers.
