Ramdhanu, a film about a set of harrowing parents wanting to put their child in an English-medium school, was an instant hit with the audience when it released on June 6, 2014. Today, as it completes a decade, the makers not just fondly remember their creation but how it led to a series of films with the central characters of Laltu and Mitali. Directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, the film starred Gargee RoyChowdhury and Shiboprosad in the lead.
Said Shiboprosad, “We love making films for the children and delving into their world. In fact, nothing gives us more happiness than that. Ramdhanu was inspired from a story by author Suchitra Bhattacharya and it was lauded for its unusual content. The film also birthed the pairing of Laltu and Mitali with whom we have already done two films, Haami and Haami 2; many more are likely to follow. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 years since we created Ramdhanu.”

Gargee, who plays Mitali in Ramdhanu, looks back at the film with a lot of love. “It was not just another film for us, but getting together as a family. Shiboprosad and I know each other so well that we know what to deliver spontaneously. Didi (Nandita Roy) is so confident about us that she just lets us be,” she said.
As Ramdhanu completes 10, here’s looking forward to many more from the Laltu-Mitali series that Shiboprosad said will continue.
