“It's been an honour to be a director of such a unique short which captures Bengal's cultural connection so well. Be it Santali artistes, Chau dancers all did a remarkable job. I am fortunate enough that Bahurupi artisans came to the city to release the trailer. We are also sending the film to the prestigious Cannes. So yes, the Bengali New Year started with positive vibes," said the director.

‘Shurponakhar Agomon’ is an experimental short not just in its concept and approach but also in its execution and filming. Language plays an important part in it while the primary language being Santali and is accompanied by English Subtitles. The screenplay and dialogues are by Chandroday Pal.

The short has been shot in and around

Purulia

with a cast and crew, majorly consisting of tribal artists, Chau dancers and technicians.

It tells the story of two often ignored characters of Ramayana, featuring two Santali actors, Parbati Murmu and Rajlaxmi Kiskum as Shurponakha and Sita respectively. The music of this short has been created by Soumya Rit and it has four original songs composed by Avijit Acharya.

Recently the teaser was released in Kolkata and it was preceded by a small performance by the Bahurupis from

Birbhum

, an almost lost art form of rural Bengal. Suchandra Vaaniya's Prayash, a non-profit organization to help the poor and needy of

Rural Bengal

, has been a pivotal part of this Short with a clear goal of helping Chau dancers, Bahurupis and local tribals by including them in the project amidst the COVID 19 pandemic.
