Kolkata-based band
Panchabhuta emerged victorious in the 2025 Wacken Metal Battle India Subcontinent, earning the prestigious opportunity to represent India at the renowned Wacken Open Air festival in Germany. The competition, held in Bangalore, saw top bands from India and Nepal battling it out, but it was
Panchabhuta’s unique fusion of heavy metal and traditional Indian music that captivated everyone, including the judges.
The five-member band, known for their distinctive genre of Indian Ancient Vedic Metal, blends heavy metal riffs with traditional Indian instruments such as the sarod and ghatam, alongside powerful vedic chants. This fusion resulted in a compelling performance that set them apart.
The band’s lineup includes Subhra Deb as the bassist and chant artist, Subhrajyoti Sen on the sarod, Abhinaba Sinha on guitar, Sourav Das on drums, and Dr Sourav Tarafdar on the ghatam, whose rare inclusion in metal adds a unique texture to their sound.
With this win,
Panchabhuta is set to perform at Wacken, one of the largest and most iconic metal festivals in the world, marking a significant milestone not only for them but also for the Indian metal scene. Their victory highlights the growing global recognition of India’s diverse metal music, and the band is ready to introduce their unique blend of Vedic metal to a wider international audience later this year.
