The concept of stree shakti will get a fresh twist this festive season, with the FD Block Sarbojonin Durga Puja taking up the issue of violence against women as the Puja theme. What���s more, they���ve roped in Tollywood heroine Koel Mallick to be the brand ambassador.
���Sexual assaults on women have gone up and it seems India has become the rape capital of the world.This year, our Puja theme focuses on demolishing rapists in the same way that Ma Durga killed Mahishasura. We are not looking at any particular incident, but on the general violence against women. The worship of Durga is not only a traditional festival; it also celebrates women power over evil forces,��� said Pradip Sengupta, the president of FD Block Sarbojonin Durga Puja.
While the pandal design is being handled by art visualizer Sanjit Ghosh, the 52-foot idol is being made by Arun Pal. Pradip contends that today���s women are like Durga and they will be united in their fight against rapists. But will this theme gel with the religious and cultural aspects of Durga Puja? ���Of course! Durga Puja is a celebration of women power. We will not show anything explicit, but there will be fibreglass designs to depict violence against women. For example, there is one picture that shows a man in a mask pulling a woman���s hair; there���s a stylized depiction of Draupadi���s cheerharan. I am sure people will like this theme,��� he added.
