‘Kishore Kumar Junior’: Reasons why the film should be on your weekend watch list

Prosenjit Chatterjee is all geared up for his next ‘Kishore Kumar Junior’ which hits the theatres this Friday, October 12. Directed by national award winning Kaushik Ganguly, It encapsulates the story of a ‘Kishore konthi’ (a singer who is popular for singing Kishore Kumar hits) and the harsh reality behind his so-called glamorous avatar on stage during live shows. Ahead of its grand release, here is a look at some crucial points which makes this film a must watch.

2/6

What the film is all about

The story revolves around a popular Kishore Konthi singer. The personal life of the ‘macha’ singer isn’t as flashy and glittering as his clothes on live performances. His son is not that happy with his father’s profession as a ‘copy’ singer. However, it’s not just a singer and his depressed personal life, there are also other layers to explore. The trailer has already showed the other side of the plot as it addresses the increasing tension between India and Pakistan. A large portion of the film has been shot in Rajashthan near the Indo-Pak border where Kishore Kumar Junior, his wife and band members get kidnapped. You would get to see how music connects the neighboring countries despite the enmity as we can see a Pakistani terrorist indulges himself in a Rafi vs Kishore argument.

3/6

Unique humane story

Kaushik Ganguly prefers narrating unusual stories that touch our hearts deeply. The concept of this film itself seems quite conspicuous. No wonder, the audience will wait for another outstanding story and a masterpiece from the director. The way he has introduced the suspense elements into a musical drama is quite exceptional. He always comes with fresh subject which nobody else can even think of. The film will try to go deep into the life and dilemma of such a ‘kanthi’ singer, how he feels while hiding his own originality and becoming a shadow of his idol.

4/6

An ensemble cast

After ‘Drishtikone’s huge success, this is Kaushik Ganguly’s second film with Prosenjit. According to many, this will surely bring out one of the finest performances by the Tollywood superstar. As the Konthi singer, he is looking perfect in both the trailer and already released songs. The supporting cast includes ace actors like Aparajita Adhya, Lama, Ritabrata and others. Aparajita Addhya will be seen playing Prosenjit’s on screen wife. After ‘Prakton’, they are once again playing a married couple. Ritabrata plays the singer’s son.

5/6

Evergreen Music

This film's music has turned out to be its USP. Balancing with the interesting theme, the music album contains as many as 18 classic hits of Kishore Kumar recreated by Kumar Sanu. The songs released so far are already topping charts. As expected these recreated songs take us to the memory lane of our favorite evergreen Kishore Kumar songs. The new versions being true to the original easily make a place in our favorite playlist.

6/6

Expect the unexpected from the director

Kaushik Ganguly’s films stand for fresh subjects which no one else can think of. Who could have imagined ‘Kishore Kumar Junior’ will have such an intrigued subplot where the ‘copy’ singer gets kidnapped by a terrorist group and it not just ends here. How music becomes a bridge between India and Pakistan can also be seen here, as the trailer has promised. After delivering a hit like ‘Drishtikone’ this year, the expectations are already quite high for his upcoming. Over the past ten years or so, things have changed a lot in Tollywood. A new generation of filmmakers has managed to make their mark, churning out stories never narrated before; making Bengali cinema truly international, while never losing the traditional or cultural touch. Kaushik Ganguly is one such person. His films have always been based on sensitive issues that instantly touch the soul of the audiences.
