We all are well aware of how tough life as a woman can be in India, the world's biggest democracy, even 54 years after Indira Gandhi made history as the country's first female prime minister in 1966, harassment is a part of almost every women’s day to day lives.

Yet, we speak about woman empowerment, gender equality on one hand and embrace patriarchy on the other hand. In rural areas, the burden of poverty weighs down heavier on girls and women in India than it does on the opposite sex.

Independent filmmaker Abhijit Roy has now come up with yet another

short film

that sheds light on the harsh reality of the position of women in society. Any woman having children will take some time off work to raise them. Some women jump back to their jobs right away, while others take an extended leave to spend several years with their children before returning to work. Incidentally, these mothers are up against bigger challenges while getting back into the workforce. Abhijit’s short film ‘

Khancha

’ revolves around this particular issue.

Abhijit’s previous short film ‘

Matrirupeno

’ had earned rave reviews getting selected in as many as 11 prestigious film festivals while another one 'Agomonir Obogahon' has won 9 awards. If all goes, according to plan, the filmmaker will start working on his first full-length feature film in March next year.
