Kaushik Ganguly to pay tribute to Mrinal Sen on his birth centenary year with Palan

Director Kaushik Ganguly's upcoming film

Palan

is a tribute to maverick filmmaker Mrinal Sen for his birth centenary next year. Set in the current time, the film will have Anjan Dutt, Sreela Majumdar, and Mamata Shankar reprising their roles from Mrinal Sen's Kharij (1982). Actors

Jisshu U Sengupta

, Paoli Dam, and Debapratim Dasgupta, who worked as a child actor Hori in Kharij, will also play crucial roles in the film. This film will have the same characters from Kharij, who now reside in a dilapidated house in Kolkata.
Debapratim, who worked with the stalwart director when he was in class Vll, said, “I was very young when I played the character of Hori in Kharij. We used to shoot in a studio in Narkeldanga. Mrinal jethu used to address me as honuman. He was extremely cool-headed on the sets and used to give a lot of freedom to his actors. First, one had to read the script in front of him and then he would tell an actor if anything needs to be added to enact the scene properly. My first experience of visiting a crematorium was for this film and I will remember it forever.” He added, “Hori in Palan drives a taxi to earn his living. Working with Kaushik da is an amazing experience!”
