The film is about music, self-exploration and death, he said.
Paoli, who is yet to sign on the dotted lines, said, The concept is different from what we have seen in recent Bengali films and I loved it. There are a few things that I have to figure out before I say yes.
Rudranil, who loves to be part of off-beat films, said, Most middle-class Bengali men face a dilemma when it comes to saying yes or no in a critical situation. Moreover, their aim is to have an eye-candy girlfriend, for which they need to be smart, good-looking and wealthy. The film mocks this aspect. How, I am not supposed to disclose. All I can say is that my character is a victim of all these qualities.
Throwing light on the storyline, the director said,
Jamaexplores how there is happiness in death, just as there is contentment in birth. It is a socio-political drama that questions modern-day notions, but in allegory. The protagonist, Amal, is hell-bent on buying coloured shirts and deals musically with the different people who come into his life. Will he be successful in getting a coloured shirt for himself, is what the film all about.
While the film has been written by the director himself, the DoP is Durbar Mondal and the music is being scored by Rana Dutta and Bobita Basu. Ruma Sengupta is the costume designer of the film, which will go on the floors in October and will be shot in and around Bengal.
