Short films are here to stay because some of our talented directors are experimenting with content in the short format and Kamaleswar Mukherjee is no exception.

His short film ‘

The Hunger Artiste

’, inspired by

Franz Kafka

’s ‘A Hunger Artiste’ and starring Ritwick Chakraborty, Biswanath Basu and Priyanka Mondal, is finally releasing on April 11 after fetching accolades in its festival rounds.

The plot sees a common man often staging dharnas and hunger strikes. This unique ability of the man forces his friend to suggest that he could make this into a profitable business where people can acknowledge his talent. It’s a satirical take on the bandhs and hartals we witness in our daily life.

Priyanka who plays a journalist in this intriguing short is also happy to see it’s finally releasing. “I play a journalist who goes to interview the artist played by Ritwick da. Soon the journalist and the artist realize that a connection between the two is slowly building up. It’s not love but it’s like a feeling. The artist also feels it but can’t express it and at the same time the journalist is worried about the hunger artist’s health condition,” shares Priyanka who was recently seen in a music video sharing the screen with Sunny Leone.

Meanwhile, Kamaleswar, while speaking about the short, had earlier said, “I developed my short from this story. The film is about a man, who would sit at dharnas and go on hunger strikes. Spotting his ability to starve, his friend suggests that he turns it into a business where people could watch him showcase his talent. It’s a satirical take on all that’s happening around us.”
