Kamaleswar shows solidarity with doctors

Director Kamaleswar Mukherjee is among the host of well-known personalities who have spoken up for the protesting doctors. The protest that started after a patient’s death at NRS has been intensifying. Doctors at various government hospitals have launched strikes in the last three days to express their angst on the

on June 10. Supporting the medical practitioners, the filmmaker has expressed his anger against the existing medical system in the state through a number of social media posts.

In one of the posts he wrote, “How long are we going to tolerate this lawlessness in medical institutes? How long will this go on? Exactly how many days will there be an eyewash in the name of development of our medical system? How much longer for the doctors to get access to minimum security? Who will guard the ones who are safeguarding our health?”

Earlier too, the director, who is also a doctor, has reacted strongly to many such cases on social media. Talking about social media lynching, Kamaleswar said, “This has been happening for quite a long time. In the last one month, there have been four instances where social media has either played the role of

moral police

or ridiculed people by crossing the border of decency.”

In Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College & Hospital (NRSMC&H) — where a junior doctor was assaulted on June 10 — the interns came together to raise slogans against the ongoing medical system and lack of security of the medical practitioners. After the incident, the junior doctors and interns closed all the entrances to the hospital and said that they will continue with the protests.
