Kaalipotka brings stories of power and survival to the fore

The upcoming web series Kaalipotka was introduced at the trailer launch where the lead cast and creators spoke about the making of the show and its thematic focus. Actors Swastika Mukherjee, Shruti Das, Himika Bose and Sreya Bhattacharya were joined by director Abhirup Ghosh to discuss the series, which centres on the lives of four women negotiating power, survival and resistance on the margins of society. Rooted in social realism, Kaalipotka presents a narrative driven by personal choices and emotional conflict, examining how individual lives are shaped by larger social forces.The series is an example of bold storytelling that places strong, complex characters at its core, while emphasising the importance of authenticity across performances, music and visual treatment. Abhirup noted that the project gave the team space to explore difficult emotions without simplification, allowing the story to unfold in a raw and unfiltered manner.Positioned as a character-led drama, Kaalipotka aims to portray unsettling realities through an intimate and grounded lens.
