Jumping into the pool when it’s raining is the best thing I’ve explored: Joey

Actor Joey Deb Roy tells Calcutta Times what makes monsoon his favourite season. Excerpts:What all do you like about the Kolkata rains?So many things! I love playing football here when it pours and enjoy driving around on wet city roads when it drizzles at night. When the skies clear up after a heavy shower, I take my dog out for a walk. We both have a lot of fun jumping on the puddles and waterlogged potholes. The entire city looks so fresh and beautiful during the monsoon. This season is also kind of a stressbuster for me. Whenever I am stressed about work or life in general, a sudden bout of rain immediately uplifts my mood.How did monsoon become your favourite season?I used to hate monsoons during my boarding school days. But things changed when I joined college. That is when I discovered that girls are at their romantic best during this season (laughs)! Back then, a simple roadside vada-pav and coffee used to be good enough to woo a girl. But with time, I have found several reasons to call this my favourite season. Children on the streets enjoying the rain make for a great visual treat. Also, swimming in the rain is really satisfying. If I don’t have any work and it’s raining, I simply take my book, get a cup of tea or coffee, sit on the sofa with my dog and enjoy the moment. At times, I lie down on the hammock with my dog and enjoy the sound of rain – it’s blissful.What is your favourite food during this season?Pakodas and piyaji along with endless cups of coffee or tea. Even khichdi with beguni, aloo bhaja and papad are my favourite food on rainy days.What are your favourite monsoon songs?Rimjhim Gire Saawan is my all-time favourite monsoon song. Also on the playlist are Aaj Mausam Bada Beimaan Hain, Rangi Saari and Yeh Sham Mastani.What is your go-to outfit for this season?Sleeveless T-shirts with hoodies or floral shirts teamed with shorts and sliders. Comfort is the key for me in every season.Are there any must-watch films for you when it rains?I love watching Korean thrillers and French romcoms when it rains. Most Korean movies will have scenes shot in the rain and French movies will dig out the spark in you (laughs).Long drive in the rain or sit at home with a cup of coffee and watch the rain?Actually both – it depends on the mood and companion. But if it’s night-time, it has to be a long drive in the rain. What is the best way for you to enjoy the rain in all its glory? I have a hammock on the balcony, so I love to lie there and just relax while watching the rain. I also love to go to the terrace and get drenched at times. It’s fun and reminds me of my school days. Jumping into the pool when it’s raining is by far the best thing I have explored.
