Joy Filmfare Awards Bangla 2021: 5 Bengali divas in contention for the best female actor in lead role

The 5th Joy Filmfare Awards Bangla celebrates the cinematic brilliance of Tollywood which enthralled us between 2020 and 2021. With acclaimed films like ‘Avijatrik’, ‘Golondaaj’, ‘Hiralal’, ‘Switzerland’, ‘Tonic’ and others receiving so many nominations this year, the juries were literally spoilt for choices to choose the best female actor in a leading role. Playing Malini who belongs to the Banerjee family, one of the great clans of Barasat that is on the verge of non-existence Aparajita is convincing while delivering emotional outbursts and at the same time as a submissive woman.

Jaya Ahsan is deceptively wicked, shape-shifting as the film turns her into a woman who is wholly human and completely mysterious. She has the capacity to surprise and appear unrehearsed almost throughout the film.

Koel as RJ Swarnaja excels in her role as the unstoppable samaritan, filling up every frame with her earnest performance.

Ritabhari excels in her role of Shabari as she is trying to break taboos through her work and belief while the film stresses on gender-bending roles.

Rukmini does a neat job of portraying an emotionally high strung Rumi who just like her husband Shibu try to rise above their middle-class moorings by committing to their ambitious holiday plans.
