Jisshu U Sengupta: I’m ready to promote any Bengali film

If there’s one thing Jisshu Sengupta has always believed with all his heart, it is that change can be the only constant. While the pandemic has proved it time and again in the last two years, in Jisshu’s life, the change has led to a wide range of onscreen characters, languages, and platforms he has been a part of. He is also more than happy to help Bengali cinema in any way possible in this tasting time, especially when South films like ‘Pushpa’, ‘RRR’ and ‘KGF 2’ has been enjoying the pan-Indian craze.

Let's unite for Bengali cinema

Jisshu U Sengupta is always open to helping others for the greater good of the Bengali film industry. The seasoned actor believes the way South Indian films are ruling the pan-Indian box office we all, especially in Tollywood, have to unite to save and grow the Bengali industry. Jisshu also feels that just like Malayalam films we have to put our faith in genuine content. Not only that but he’s also assured about one thing which is quite an exemplary one.

3/7

Happy to promote any Bengali film

“For the betterment of Bengali cinema I have no ego problem. I have said this many times and will again say that not only my films but whenever needed I am ready to promote films of other actors as well. I am always open to help. If I am in Kolkata and don’t have shooting schedule just call me once and I am there. If my presence helps other films I would be happy to help everyone,” shared Jisshu.

For the greater good

Celebs supporting each other's films is nothing new down South. The popular actor adds that most of the filmmakers are very appreciative of each other's work and remain united while representing one strong collective which is for the greater good of the industry. They may fight for movie collections, records, fandom, or even movie release dates and theatres, but are also happy to help when it comes to lauding each other’s good work.

The essence of Soumitra

Meanwhile, Jisshu was recently seen in the Soumitra Chattopadhyay biopic ‘Abhijaan’ playing Soumitra’s younger version. Jisshu’s honest attempt to capture the essence of Soumitra has been lauded by all. His last Bengali release ‘Baba Baby O’ had also earned him accolades.

6/7

It’s not only about star power

The dashing actor is also one of the most sought-after actors amid the ongoing OTT wave and according to him, the diverse world of digital space has successfully bridged the gap between industries, just like it helped him cement a place down south. “The growth of OTT has somehow blurred the lines between different industries. The audience can watch good quality content from anywhere through the streaming services; be it South, East or West. This has helped people in recognizing so many talented actors. And that’s how actors like me come in,” adds Jisshu as he claims “Today, it is not about star power. It is only about the content”.

7/7

Lines are becoming blurred

The rise of OTT platforms has also helped open more doors for talented actors, just as it happened with Jisshu. “I started getting offers from south because so many people saw my performance in Typewriter, and then Criminal Justice. Now, everyone knows what kind of actor I am. That’s the most important reason how the so-called lines are becoming blurred each day,” said the National Award-winning actor.
