It is never too easy to step into the shoes of someone who has already given an impressive performance. More so, when the actor in question has not been on stage for 14 years! Jaya Seal Ghosh, naturally, had loads of reasons to feel apprehensive when she went up on stage to essay the role of Prakriti in Usha Ganguly's Hindi adaptation of Tagore's Chandalika on Sunday evening at Rabindra Sadan.
But once she emerged from the wings, Jaya seemed completely at ease. Her use of stage space and hercommand over Hindi ' both only aided in bringing alive the performance.
To top it all was the chemistry that she shared with the veteran Ganguly. One of the high points was the 'Vasant Ritu' scene that had an interesting use of flower garlands. Said Jaya, 'I am privileged to have got someone like Ushadi to mentor me now. This is the first play of mine that Bickram has watched and he, like many of my well-wishers, said that I was born for the stage! I'm happy to be getting such good projects that earn me respect and give me artistic satisfaction.'
