Debut director Aditi Roy is thrilled that her film 'Abosheshey' is the only Bengali film to be selected for competition at the international section of the Kerala International Film Festival. Says the director, 'The organizers have chosen 14 movies in competition and mine is the only Bengali film. There are three other Indian movies, including a Hindi film.
The festival is in December and I'd want to attend it.'
Ask her what could have got her movie this entry and she says, 'The story's the hero. It's about a son who returns to Kolkata after his mother's death. His parents had got divorced long back and the son had no memories of her mother. During his stay in Kolkata, he embarks on a journey of discovery about his mother.'
How does it feel to be a woman director breaking into a male-dominated domain? 'Abroad, there are great women directors. In Bollywood too, names like
Kiran Rao are emerging. There haven't been too many female directors in Kolkata except Aparna Sen. Fortunately, I've never felt gender bias in my career,' she signs off.
