battle may have fizzled out before it gathered steam, but another is likely to begin soon. Recently, it was announced that Anjan Dutt would make

Srikanta

as a series. Spanned in four parts, Srikanta was written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay over a period of more than 16 years and Anjan expressed the desire of making one film every year for four years starting 2020. His lead will be played by

Suprobhat

. But this isn’t the only Srikanta film in the offing. Last year, Pradipta Bhattacharya had announced that he would make Rajlakshmi O Srikanta with Ritwick Chakraborty in the lead. The rest of his cast includes Rahul Banerjee as Hukumchand and Bangladeshi actress Jyotika Jyoti as Rajlakshmi. Sayan Ghosh, he said, would play the character of Indranath. While elaborating on the film, director Pradipta Bhattacharya had said that his would be an experimental approach on the original story. “I am a huge admirer of Srikanta and I was planning to make a film on it for years. As per the backdrop of the story, since time has changed there will be some changes in the storyline. Besides, it’s more interesting to explore a classic literature from an individual perspective than to just repeat the story as it is,” he was quoted as saying. The first three parts of Srikanta were published as a book in 1917, 1918 and 1927. The fourth was published as a book in 1933. But Anjan wants to take the story forward by four decades. “My stories are set in 1960s, the same era in which Byomkesh is set,” he told us.
