The news is out that
Pink is being remade in Tamil. So, what does the director of the film — Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury— have to say about it? CT finds out in a short interview with the filmmaker. Excerpts:
Did you know that Pink is being remade in Tamil ?Yes. And I am sure it will do as well as it did in Hindi. Boneyji (producer Boney Kapoor) had called me. I have met director Vinod Kumar and Ajith. They are absolutely awesome. I’m looking forward to the film.
Do you want to see the remake before its release?I will watch it only after the release.
There were allegations that Pink was ghost-directed by Shoojit Sircar. Similar allegations used to be levelled against Kaushik Ganguly when he did films with Rituparno Ghosh. Will you ever direct a film that has been produced by another director?I don’t know but I will make sure that no one says that my film has been ghost-directed. Shoojit is a producer of Pink. A film belongs 100% to the director as well as the producer. I am aware of the confusion regarding who has directed Pink. I can say this confusion is very unfortunate. More so, because before having directed Pink, I had already won a Swarna Kamal, Rajat Kamal and the Arvindan Puraskar. In future, I will want to work in a space where such confusion regarding my skill and story doesn’t arise. However, I must add that I have moved on and am not breaking my head about credits.
Do you want to produce a film directed by another filmmaker?I have done it before with Ekti Tarar Khonje. However, I don’t have time for it now.
Post Pink, what lessons have you learnt?Filmmaking is an extremely collaborative medium. But in today’s world, one has to be careful in every sphere of life. It’s important to be respectful about everyone’s contribution. So, after Pink, I’ll be more careful.
Pink highlighted the ‘no means no’ stand. What’s your take on the #MeToo movement?Anuranan
was the first film that I did on moral policing. Pink is an extension of that. I have no issues with consensual sex between adults. But when men take advantage of their power position, I find it disgusting. I strongly feel that women should speak up and Pink had articulated that.
