It is high time, laws on animal cruelty should be revised: Parno Mittra
The tragic death of a pregnant elephant, after it ate a pineapple stuffed with fire crackers, in Kerala, continues to draw ire from people across the country. Parno Mittra, who is an animal lover and has two dogs (Maggi and Kedarnath), still can’t come to terms with the incident. “I couldn’t sleep the the whole night. My sister, who is a vegan, has slipped into depression and is angry at the same time.

What type of cruelty is this where a pregnant elephant was fed a pineapple stuffed with crackers? Are we humans? The word compassion doesn’t seem to exist in our dictionary. This elephant was pregnant. How could they do this to her? Despite being in pain, the elephant passed away quietly without hurting a single soul. Human beings should learn from animals. The laws on animal cruelty have to be stricter and the punishment should be severe. On the one hand, we worship animals and on the other hand, we do this to them? I have seen people pelting stones at stray dogs, cats, and they just get away with it. It is time, the laws on animal cruelty should be revised. Just because they can’t speak for themselves doesn’t give us the right to harm them like this,” said Parno.
