Is Leela Samson qualified to head Censors?
Director Buddhadeb Dasgupta feels that political clout is becoming an important criterion for bagging plum government posts that deals with art, culture and cinema.
"This is a dangerous trend and I am shocked with the recent developments. In recent times, I find political clout is what ensures that a person gets a plum post. Look at Leela Samson. She is a very reputed danseuse.

We all respect her for that. But, have we ever found out whether she is equally well-versed or literate about cinema? Just because a person is a good dancer, it doesnt qualify her to be the Censor Board chief. Ive been told that her proximity to certain ministers was influential in making her the Censor Board chief," Dasgupta says.
Even the recent news of appointment of Arpita Ghosh as the head of the West Bengal Sishu Kishore Academy has intrigued Dasgupta. "Sunil Gangopadhyay used to head that Academy. But, Im told that he has been replaced by Arpita Ghosh, who directed "Poshu Khamar". Its obvious that her political closeness to the new government is a reason for the choice of her appointment. This, I feel, is setting a bad precedent. I thought working honestly was important. Now, I feel its all about maintaining a good relation with important members of political parties. This is very sad for creative individuals in our country."
