Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Pradipta Bhattacharya, ‘Rajlokhi O Srikanto’ is a rebellious modern day take on the Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic literary work, and stars Bangladeshi actress Jyotika Jyoti as Rajlokhi or Pyaribai, opposite
Ritwick Chakraborty, who plays Srikanto. This film marks Jyotika’s debut in Tollywood but the experienced Bangladeshi actress doesn’t feel any pressure ahead of the release.
The film is no doubt an adventurous take on a literary classic. We asked the popular Bangladeshi actress how challenging it was shooting for the film. Jyotika says she adapted the story in her own way while preparing for Rajlokhi’s character.
“Yes, the novel is so widely read and almost everyone’s read it. Weirdly enough, I wanted to see the old screen adaptations of the novel, but was asked not to. I had read the novel many years ago, but I was asked not to re-read it for the film. I was asked to connect to this story and adapt it in my own way. To me, this Rajlokhi is more humane, and bolder. And she’s a struggler. Our script has a huge social relevance and the script is not just a one-dimensional love story, it is a reflection on the society as well,” explained the Bangladeshi actress.
‘Rajlokhi O Srikanto’ will release on September 20.
