He prefers to stay away from the glitz and glamour of star-studded award shows. Instead, Indrasis Acharya is more interested in showing his films to the worldwide audience, curtsy a lineup of prestigious film festivals both in India and abroad. That’s exactly what’s happening with his new film ‘
Niharika’ which had its world premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival last year and continues his festival run this year as well.
The film is now getting ready for its screening at the Annual Habitat Film Festival, New Delhi on May 14. Not only this but Indrasis has been invited to Bulgaria by Festival & Congress Centre for the 31St Varna International Film Festival (Love is Folly). ‘Niharika’ will be screened in the Best of Asian Panorama 2022-23 section and the director will be in Bulgaria to present his film. And, it’s no surprise that Indrasis is super excited to show a Bengali film to Bulgarian audience. The film festival will be held from August 25 to September 3. He also congratulations the entire team for overcoming hurdles one after another.
"Niharika is the story of a young woman, Deepa, as she moves away from a drunken, abusive father to a more sympathetic environment with her uncle and aunt in rural Jharkhand. She decides to go back to her roots, to the comfort of solitude while searching for her own identity. Her search for peace, and ultimately for herself, will prove long and elusive," shares Indrasis. The film dealing with such a delicate and sensitive issue stars
Anuradha Mukherjee, Shilajit Mazumdar, Mallika Mazumdar,
Anindya Sengupta and others in key roles.
According to the director, “It's a story of belief in love without any inhibition and boundary of a modern woman with the help of natural beauty around her and the house she lives in.” Indrasis also assures they are planning to release
the film in July-August this year.
For the unversed, ‘Niharika’ was also lauded by one and all during the Asian premiere at the Hanoi International Film Festival and then during the Indian premiere at 27th International Film Festival of Kerala last year. It was also screened at the Pune International Film Festival earning a lot of appreciation.
