Big dreams continue to elude Anando Ghosh. But playing Devdas is no small thing, admits the model, as he hopes to do justice to the role, played earlier by Bollywood greats....
Modelling, it seems, has become the stepping stone to a career in acting...
I beg to differ. For every model, acting isn���������t the next big step. Models have eclipsed actors with their newfound celebrity.It���������s just one of the many avenues to take a shot at their dream. We live the lifestyle, sell dreams, our smiles never have a day off but modelling has a limited shelf life. When you tire of the cameo appearances in couture, models seem intent to show that they can also transcend the runway. Some turn to acting. Others float their own event management company. Still others quench the insatiable appetite for all things fashion by opening a grooming school or becoming choreographers. I had developed a passion for acting in tandem with modelling. Here I am having a stab at something close to my heart.
So you agree that the fashion industry is transient...
I do. Compared to Mumbai, Kolkata���������s modelling industry isn���������t that grand. What also surprises me is the dearth of male models in the city. Girls have swamped the industry, but I wonder where the men are!
You have landed the lead part in a megaserial. Why did you choose to debut on the small screen with Devdas?
Though the lure of the big screen is there, I couldn���������t resist the offer to play Devdas. Of course, I had to go through the whole rigmarole of auditions. Actors like Dilip Kumar and SRK, who played Devdas on-screen, got the opportunity to do so after having made a name. God���������s been real kind that I���������m making a screen debut with Devdas. This is a dream role for many. As far as choosing the small screen is concerned, I feel if one has the potential, the medium becomes secondary. SRK started with small screen and today, he rules Bollywood and how!
But according to rumourmills, it is the dearth of film offers that made you settle for the small screen...
Can you name the directors I had approached? I haven���������t yet circulated my folio pictures, leave alone approaching directors and producers!
In that case, are more serials welcome?
I don���������t think I���������ll accept any more such offers. I accepted this because I feel this is a role to die for! Celluloid is my target and I am striving hard for it.
With Dev around, how confident are you about making a mark in Tollywood?
Dev is doing well but that has nothing to do with me. Dev has his own place in the industry and I have mine.
In real life, has this Devdas met his Paro?
I haven���������t yet met my Paro! Love, to me, is like a rainbow with a lot of shades and I am aware that love comes with its share of pain. I believe in destiny. If you are destined to be with your beloved, you will be, no matter what!
There���������s rumour doing the rounds that you are dating actor Anindita Bose...
You said it. It���������s just a rumour. We are friends and to be more specific, we are professional friends.
While on Devdas, the character has been portrayed by top actors. What more can Anando add to the character?
With all the help extended by director Sayantan Mukherjee, I am trying to portray Devdas to the best of my abilities.
