Bangladeshi actor Jaya Ahsan confesses that she isnt afraid to play Charu in Arindam Sils Aborto, her Tolly debutArindam Sils "Aborto" marks your Tollywood debut...Thats right. Ive had serial and film offers from this industry earlier too, but I felt THIS was the one I should debut with. I was convinced by the character after all, it is legendary.
The concept too is different. Ami chhobir premik and I fell in love with this project.
Considering that Charu has been immortalized by Ray, how apprehensive are you of being put under the scanner for the role? Each actor needs to take responsibility for every character he/she portrays. Im not apprehensive because Im Charu in Aborto and I know that Ill be dedicated towards the character. Also, mine isnt the only head the gun will be pointed at. Arindamda too will be held at gunpoint (laughs). But jokes apart, the idea is not to overcome or merge with Rays
Charulata, but to make her convincing.
Will the Ray classic be your reference point?I have watched the film and I hope to see it again before the shoot, simply because I do not want my Charu to be a reflection of Rays Charulata.
And what traits of Charu do you find in yourself?(Laughs) I believe that an actor will find in herself some trait or the other of the characters she has essayed. Its not only looks that determine why an actor has been selected for a particular role. I want to become that character on screen. Charu sobar majhe thekeo eka. Maybe this and the fact that I like spending time with myself, brings me closer to Charu.
One can be married yet lonely. Being a married woman, have you ever craved the company of men at such times?Loneliness, even when married, is a harsh reality. But I use such moments to be with myself. As for craving for other male company, I feel there are different facets to a relationship, which go beyond mere physicality. Its not wrong to like another person when in a marriage. I think theres an element of mystery in liking someone.
Behind every successful man theres a woman. Does the opposite also hold true?I have never thought about it that way. But yes, ones partner is important in such cases. I would use the term shilpa sangi instead. In my case, I had stopped working post-marriage. But my husband gave me my space, my windows were always left open.
You have a diploma in Rabindrasangeet. You are an artist too. Would you be giving your inputs to set designing or doing the playback if needed?I am a selfish actor. Till I am convinced that I have given my 100 per cent, I drive my directors nuts. I am obsessed with my characters. Such is my passion for acting that my husband often says that I am still living that character. I cant disagree that a hangover remains even after youve finished shooting. But you gradually get over it. Coming to your question, Id love to suggest something as long as the character does not surpass the film. As far as singing is concerned, I like to focus on one thing at a time.
How aware are you about your co-stars in this project?I have seen a few of their works though I am not too aware of the industry here. But I am sure my director will have a workshop where I can know them even better.
