Acool prof, an actor, a talk show host, a journalist Ushasie Chakraborty has had various feathers on her cap. Yet another addition to her identities is that of a music video director. Recently, Ushasie directed a video of the song, Mayabonobiharini, for Mainak Bhaumiks Bedroom.

And if the shooting is anything to go by, she is confident that the video might also kick off a trend of girl bands in the city. Says Ushasie, When we were shooting for Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona, Anjanda (Anjan Dutt) and I used to discuss how Kolkata doesnt have a girl band. When we conceived this music video, we tried hard to get a girl band. But, we only found talented individual female musicians. Once I heard them play during the shoot, I was very impressed. This video will inspire Kolkata to get its own girl band. While Rachita plays the lead vocalist of the band, Titash is on drums, Suyasha on lead guitars, Sharmishtha on bass and Shankolita on keyboards. Considering that Ushasie has always been in front of the camera, how challenging was it to direct? I got goosebumps. I always got technical support from Mainak. However, the experience was great.
Mainak, on his part, says, The concept was ideated by Usashie and I. This song is featured in a club sequence. It signifies gender reversal. Through this number, we are portraying the strength of women, their power in terms of sensitivity and maturity. While I was happy giving technical support, the video is Ushasies baby. Says Rachita, I was running high temperature when we shot this song that has been so beautifully rendered by Somlata. I love my Gothic look in the video. Shooting this video reminded me of my Army days when I would indulge in such gigs. Im waiting for its release, she signs off.
