The tag of a superstar rests lightly on
Jaya Ahsan’s shoulders. The four-time Bangladeshi National Award-winning actor whose first film opposite
Prosenjit Chatterjee, ‘Robibaar’, received critical acclaims wants to be identified as an artiste instead of a star.
Leave alone Dhaka, Jaya Ahsan has been giving sleepless nights to heroines here in Tollywood as well. She has worked with almost all the celebrated directors such as including
Kaushik Ganguly,
Srijit Mukherjee
, Arindam Sil,
Atanu Ghosh,
Shiboprosad Mukherjee and
Nandita Roy, Indranil Roychoudhury, Birsa Dasgupta and Soukarya Ghosal, among others.
Jaya has always carefully opted for movies, which deliver strong messages. So, how does she always manage to look different in each film?
“The script helps a lot, and after years of acting, an expertise develops. But unwavering concentration helps me a lot. I still try not to keep the cell phone with me while shooting, as phone calls are a positive nuisance. I’m in a different zone altogether while enacting a character,” explains the Bangladeshi actress.
When asked whether she is a method actor, the pretty lady promptly answers: “Not really. I believe in cerebral acting, if I may say so. It’s very painful to come out of the character, if it’s a very deep or layered one. I discover myself through work, and if you ask me who the real Jaya is, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. Each role can be very demanding in its own way. It all depends upon the gravity and depth of a role. Earlier, it used to take a lot of time. I needed a break of at least a month or two to get out of a character.”
The Bangladeshi actress has ‘Phurut’, the second Bangladeshi film from her home production lined up. She will next be seen in Soukarya Ghosal’s ‘Bhoot Pori’ and Atanu Ghosh’s ‘Binisutoy’ which is currently in its festival round.
