tumble out of nowhere. Writer-director
Soukarya Ghosal, known for his penchant for bringing forth unusual tales on the celluloid, has recently wrapped up the shoot for his next, Bhootpori. He recently shared a post on social media describing how it was a happy moment for the entire unit.
“Ghost stories tend to have a Western overtone in cinema. That is usually because we are used to seeing
Hollywood
ghost films a lot. But in the Asian countries, especially India, ghost stories also have a legend attached to them. I wanted to bring out that essence in my film, away from the biblical and western context. Our ghosts have similar emotions, putting them on the same page as humans, whereas western ghosts have
paranormal
powers,” said Soukarya.
The film stars Ritwik Chakraborty,
Jaya Ahsan, Sudiptaa Chakraborty,
Shantilal Mukherjee and child artiste Bishantak Mukherjee, among others. With a spooky ambiance on the set and a restless child actor to handle, Soukarya’s task was not an easy one. “I have been working with child actors in all my films. Like Mahabrata (Basu), Bishantak too is a lovely child actor to have in my film. While Mahabrata’s dedication towards his work is unquestionable, Bishantak is younger than him and quite a handful on the set. But I have realised that when you have kids around, it is better to become one yourself. So, from raag-obhiman to scoldings -- everything was a part of their lingo,” said Soukarya, adding, “Though the seniors are seasoned actors, it becomes a bit of a challenge for them when you have kids on set.”
