Do you know who Adu and Nadu are? We bet, you don’t till we tell you that these are monikers that Srabanti and Roshan have given each other. While Srabanti calls him Adu, Roshan addresses her as Nadu. They gave each other these names when they fell in love with each other. That was some months after their first meeting at a city restopub on July 7 last year.
After their hush-hush summer wedding in Amritsar on April 19, Tollywood’s hottest couple is back in town. When CT got in touch with Roshan, he said: “If I ever did anything right in my life, it was giving my heart to her.” In an exclusive interview, Srabanti lets her guard down and reveals to CT readers why she kept her wedding a secret, her reaction to trolls and the Kolkata ceremony.
Why did you marry secretly?Nojor lege jaye. I have too many ‘well-wishers’ in Kolkata. I didn’t want anyone to interfere with my life. I believe in astrology. My astrologer had told me not to share anything with anyone. He also told me not to get married following the Bengali rituals of sitting in front of a fire. That’s why, I followed the Punjabi rituals for my entire wedding in front of 50 close relatives and friends. I am sorry that I had to give a misleading interview to CT even when my mehendi was on. For me, it’s a case of once bitten twice shy. I want peace now.
When did you get your marriage registered? That was on April 15, Poila Boishakh, at a restaurant in Tangra. The mehendi and gaye holud ceremonies were done in Amritsar. We got socially married on April 19 at 11 in the morning. Few people know that I was born in Amritsar and as luck would have it, I’ve also got married there. This was the first time I had a social marriage.
Where did you get married?Roshan’s brother — Chander Kumar, who we endearingly call Happy Bhaiya — did all the arrangements for us. We just had to deal with the finances. A villa was hired for the festivities.
Who decided what you would wear for your wedding? It was my wedding. So, who else would decide that? On the day of our wedding registration, I wore a silver gown and on the 18th, I wore a green and yellow lehenga. Somadi, my hairdresser, used a lot of flowers. For the wedding, I wore an all-red Punjabi suit. For the reception, I chose a white and pink lehenga.
What were your guests treated to?We mainly had Punjabi cuisine. Everything one can think of in Punjabi cuisine was served on a platter. We also had a bit of Bengali and Chinese cuisine on the menu.
How did your son, Jhinuk, react to the wedding? Was he there?Jhinuk has been my pillar of support. He just wants to see me happy with the right person. He was there
at my wedding and wore a white kurta-pajama.
What did Roshan gift you?He gave me a mangal sutra, ring and gold jewellery.
What did you gift him?I gifted myself to him (laughs). Jokes apart, I gave him a chain and a ring.
Are you using Roshan’s surname in future?Oh, yes! Henceforth, I want to be addressed as Srabanti Singh.
What’s your honeymoon destination? We would prefer Switzerland. But currently, I will start shooting for Abhimanyu Mukherjee’s film.
Will there be any ceremony in Kolkata?I apologise to those who called to wish me for not taking their calls on the day of my wedding and after that. I just worked according to the advice given by my astrologer. Roshan and I are soon going to move to a new house. The interior decoration is on now. We will invite our friends for the house-warming party.
You must be aware of the trolls who had a field day discussing your wedding…Such comments or activities are not worth reacting to.
Through Calcutta Times, Rajib had wished you. Your reaction?Thank you.
He’s supposed to remarry next year…I wish him all the best.
