Five performances etched in our hearts

She is known to win hearts with the cutest of smiles you would see at the celluloid. You would be easily taken away by her irresistible charm whenever you get a sight of the pretty actress. Mimi Chakraborty is not only the queen of dimples but also a stellar performer. As the talented actress celebrates her birthday today, here we bring you five of her Bengali films which shaped her carrer and made the Bengali diva the bubbly girl of Tollywood.

2/6

‘Bojhena Shey Bojhena’ (2012)

Entertaining, thrilling, engaging and most importantly 'emotional'! That’s what everyone said after watching this Raj Chakraborty directorial. This movie is a 'stroke of difference' since it heavily differs from other 'commercial blockbusters'. You can actually 'feel' every character's pain and emotion. As per the narrative, there were mainly two couples – one is played by Soham and Mimi Chakraborty and the other one is Abir Chatterjee and Paayel Sarkar. Full of wit, charm and cinematic charisma ‘Bojhena Shey Bojhena’ made the audience glued to the seat until the end. Loaded with really good main and supporting characters the 2012 hit became a sure-surprise gift to all moviegoers.

3/6

‘Proloy’ (2013)

Raj Chakraborty’s crime thriller ‘Proloy’ raised questions against a burning social issue that has plagued Bengal over the years, a common man’s fight against evil politicians. The common people’s fight against corrupt political leaders has been a great source of cinematic material for Bengali cinema but with Barun Biswas (played by Parambrata Chatterjee) in 'Proloy', Raj brings in a real-life protagonist whose courage and heroism struck the right chord among the masses. Mimi was seen as Param’s on-screen love interest who continued the fight even after Barun was murdered. In ‘Proloy’, Saswata Chatterjee appears as Animesh Dutta, a realistic cop fighting against the crime-prone suburb area. He gets to know a name Barun Biswas, who was brutally killed for protesting the corrupt politicians in the small town. While Animesh plans to control the entire situation but suddenly the serial killing of the criminals gives him a new challenge. Saswata simply bamboozled the audience in a never-seen-before smart officer avatar.

4/6

Dhananjay (2017)

Dhananjoy's story revolves around the conviction of Dhananjoy Chatterjee who was accused of the brutal murder of Hetal Parekh in 1990. Based on the circumstantial evidence and considering the deceased mother's statement, security guard Dhananjoy Chatterjee was eventually executed and hanged to death in the early hours of 15th August 2004. Mimi Chakraborty playing the lawyer who fought for Dhananjoy earned accolades alongside Anirban Bhattacharya who was equally brilliant in essaying the role of Dhananjoy.

5/6

'Posto' (2017)

The unique bonding between a grandkid and his/her grandparents is something on a different level. That’s what Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee’s ‘Posto’ teaches us. Soumitra Chatterjee and Lily Chakraborty as the grandparents, Mimi Chakraborty as the high tempered mother to little Arghya Basu Roy (Posto) gave stellar performances. Jisshu Sengupta, portraying the alcoholic and struggling painter who tries to be a good son and a good father at the same time, steals the show but this film also showed the difficulties a mother faces these days to establish a bond with her son, especially if you are a working lady and have your own agenda in life.

6/6

‘Crisscross’ (2018)

In Birsa Dasgupta’s ‘Crisscross’, Mimi Chakraborty plays an ambitious photojournalist Ira who finds it difficult to maintain the balance between her professional and personal life. It’s completely different from the characters Mimi has enacted thus far and the versatile actress pulled off the role with elan. Directed by Birsa Dasgupta, ‘Crisscross’ explores a world of hopes crashing down and lives constantly on the brink of meltdown. The film sees five women struggling and at the same time celebrating their womanhood as they crisscross each other’s path in a day. They all bring in their own stories and reasons to stand strong, amidst all the odds.
