Talking about the film and this particular song, Srijit said that Kadam Kadam was considered the marching anthem of Netaji’s Indian National Army (INA). It was originally written by INA general captain Ram Singh Thakuri on the request of Bose. However, in this film, the song has been rearranged and composed by music director Indraadip Dasgupta. “The song has been filmed on Anirban, who is playing an investigative journalist. The song shows his quest to find the incidents regarding the disappearance of Netaji,” he added.
Talking about Kadam Kadam, Prosenjit said that he has been listening to the song since his childhood and it has always instilled a sense of pride for India in him. “It was the only song that played during our march at school. I am really happy and can’t help but feel nostalgic on hearing the song, which is now part of my film, Gumnaami,” he added.
For Anirban, this song invokes a different feeling. He said that he has used Netaji Bhawan Metro station a number of times but “today it feels completely different and special. The photographs of Netaji are having an altogether new effect on me,” he said.
Gumnaami is a film based on the Mukherjee Commission Hearings, which happened from 1999 to 2005, where the three theories about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's death were discussed and debated.
