After the mentally and physically challenged Rupam in Durga , Gourab will play an autistic in Tanima Sens directorial debut
There are a couple of new twists to Tanima Sens Pother Shesh Kothay . For starters, the film-maker has found a new Abhimanyu, an autistic. When he was 10, he met with an accident. The story takes off when he is 33.
Initially, Manas Mukherjee was supposed to play the part. But he suddenly fell ill and had to be replaced, though I wouldve loved him to be part of the venture, says Tanima. News is that Gourab is the new Abhimanyu.
The director clarifies, Gourab was my first choice. I saw him in the Tarun Majumdar film and loved his work. I had gone to watch Uttam Kumarer nati in action and came back suitably impressed. Next, I saw him in Durga . Much later, we did cultural programmes and with time, we bonded. In fact, she had offered him the part when Gourab was part of Durga . But he reasoned that he wasnt allowed to work outside. He said, If you can wait for a few days, I might be able to join the project as Durga will reach its end . As luck would have it, even my film got delayed, but thanks to my good friend Pranab Mukherjee, it is back on track and that too with Gourab, Tanima thanks her stars.
The film-maker , however, had to toil hard to rope in Gourab the second time. Thats because she had lost all contact with him. His phone number had changed and I had a tough time sourcing his number . The best part is that I am getting to work with all my favourite stars. Theres Soumitra Chatterjee, Supriya Devi and now, Uttam Kumars grandson! the filmmakers excitement is palpable.
Gourab, on his part, is glad to be part of this project. Ask him how he has researched for the role after having played a similar character in Durga and the actor says, Rupam is different from Abhimanyu. Though I did observe a person with a similar handicap while essaying Rupam, there was no proper explanation in the mega as to why Rupam became the way he was. But when I went through the script of PSK I realized that it is based on the life of an autistic.
But doesnt he fear being typecast? Not really. Ive done Kaushik Gangulys Rang Milanti , where I play a DJ, a college going guy. Then I have another megaserial tentatively titled Fera , where I am married to a girl, who dies while giving birth. Next, I am married to her sister. So, I guess, people will get to see me in varied roles.
Talking of roles, buzz is that even June is no longer part of the venture. I would have loved June to be part of the same. But she has her hands full with other commitments and, hence, couldnt play Tota, though she was keen to. Now I have a new girl called Shimli, who will face the camera for the first time, Tanima signs off.
