and the cinephiles of Kolkata have decided to celebrate the occasion. Clubbing it with maestro Satyajit Ray’s 98th birthday, the descendents of the film’s producers, Nepal Dutta and Asim Dutta, will be hosting an event. There, they will screen the original 35-mm celluloid print of Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne, which was released on May 8, 1969. Along with the screening, a talk on the master filmmaker’s cinematic journey will also be held. Eminent film personalities, including Goutam Ghose, Aparna Sen, Srijit Mukherji and Kaushik Ganguly, will tentatively take part in the conversation.
Arijit Dutta, the descendant of the producers, is excited about the screening of the celluloid print. “This film has never been digitised. The DVD is also taken from the original film format. I find the celluloid version more pleasing to my eyes. In fact, in the music scene too, digitisation has made the sound harsher. I am sure the screening will be loved by the audience,” he said.
