Aparna Sen’s ‘

Ghawre Bairey Aaj

’ is a modern-day adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s iconic novel Ghare Baire. Starring Anirban Bhattacharya, Jisshu Sengupta and Tuhina Das in the lead and Anjan Dutt and Rwitobroto Mukherjee in key roles this film surely triggers nostalgia.

That’s what the recently released teaser does as Brinda (Tuhina) introduces herself. In a flashback, we see a snippet of her childhood as Brinda says her name was Bimla a long time ago. In the original story, the character name was Bimala.
Aparna Sen also changed Nikhilesh’s name to Animesh (Anirban Bhattacharya) who is the editor of a digital news platform and Brinda's workaholic husband. The teaser raises curiosity as the Bengali Sandip from Tagore’s Ghare Baire has been changed into Sandip Jha (Jisshu Sengupta). Sandip’s bilingual dialogue points out to love triangle which forms the core of the narrative.
Going by the teaser it seems Sandip is a childhood friend of Animesh and has become a Maoist. The friends meet after a long time and it eventually changes the course of the relationship between the three.

There are also glimpses of political hostility, Sandip getting cornered and the emotional moments between Sandip and Brinda, while Animesh looks to have lost in his agenda and, at the end of the teaser has no other choice but to ask his wife whether she loves Sandip.
It’s quite clear Aparna Sen doesn’t want to give away the plot of her 21st century interpretation.
