Gargi Roy: Colour me red
Gargi Roy Choudhury is all set to enthrall her audiences in a new soap titled Sindoor Khela. Directed by Arijit Mukherjee of Durga and Akash Kusum fame, the story has been penned by Sahana.
Not one to believe in quantity, Gargi explains why she gave her nod to the project, I might have essayed a variety of roles, but I dont remember playing such a strong character like Jashodhara ever.

When Sahana narrated the concept, I was spellbound.
Red, the very colour of vermillion, symbolizes struggle, emotions, strength and love. And Jashodhara, is a woman, who challenges God. Tagore has written, Narike apon bhagya joy koribar keno nahi dibe adhikar, he bidhata. Jashodhara signifies all this and more. What I liked about the role is that there are myriad shades to her. She is not just black and white, adds Gargi, who has been approached to play the lead in a film based on one of Tagores popular novels.
The story revolves around Jashodhara and her three daughters. They run a vermillion trade. While to Jashodhara the meaning of sindoor is strictly business, to her daughters, it is more symbolic, elaborates Arijit. A possessive mother, Jashodharas presence hampers the marital life of her two daughters. But the youngest daughter realizes that with the application of sindoor, there comes a certain responsibility both as a wife and a mother, continues the director, adding that fresher Shweta has been roped in to play the youngest daughter.
As for signing on Gargi, Arijit says, There is certain look that goes with a character like Jashodharas. And who better than Gargi for the same? She has the looks and the attitude to pull off such a role.
