Gargee Roychowdhury is set to play the legendary Bengali theatre icon Tarasundari in an eponymous play that will see the actress in a solo act.
Tarasundari was a trailblazer of Bengal’s theatre – brilliant in tragedy and comedy, gifted in singing, and unmatched in stage presence. Currently, Gargee is undergoing rigorous training to step into the shoes of the iconic performer.
“Tarasundari was not just a remarkable actress but a symbol of courage and grace who refused to bow to social stigma. Bringing her story to life is my tribute to her indomitable spirit,” Gargee said.
Tarasundari is written and directed by Ujjwal Chattopadhyay, with music and sound design by
Prabuddha Banerjee.
My attempt is to rediscover Tarasundari’s journey her career and her defiance of social ostracism. I only hope to do justice to her legacy
