It was glam and glory -in just the right amount -at Science City Auditorium on Saturday . Everyone worth their salt in Tollywood turned up to be a part of Jio Filmfare Awards East 2017. The most awaited awards function of the year rolled out its sought-after red carpet for the who's who from the Bengali film frat. While entering the venue, when Kaushik Ganguly said, “To be present here today is itself a great deal,“ little did he know that he would walk away with some of the most prestigious awards of the evening for Cinemawala -his tribute to the dying single screens in Bengal. Cinemawala fetched him the awards for best film and best director, apart from critics' best actor, best production design and best original story.
The other hero of the eve was Pratim D Gupta. His Shaheb Bibi Golaam was feted with six awards. While Swastika Mukherjee was declared as the best actor in a leading role (female), Ritwick Chakraborty was adjudged the best supporting actor (male), along with Anirban Bhattacharya for Eagoler Chokh.

Another big winner in the popular awards category was Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee's Praktan. It got five awards in all, including best lyri cist, best playback singer (female), best album, critics' best actress and best supporting actor (female). The glittering night was also about underdogs coming into the limelight. Arun Roy's Cholai, based on the 2011 hooch tragedy , won the critics' best film, while Arindam Bhattacharya and Ayan Chakraborti were joint winners of best debut director for Antarleen and Shororipu. The gala event was sprinkled with performances by Tolly hotties Paayel Sarkar, Nusrat Jahan, Sayantika, Mimi Chakraborty, Ankush and Dev. To make the event memorable, Usha Uthup rendered Tomake chai from Gangster. Supriya Devi, who was honoured with the lifetime achievement award, said, “I would have been happier if I could walk my way to the stage.“ She was received with a long, resounding applause and a final standing ovation.
