From Superstar Dev to Gaurav Chakrabarty – Tollywood celebs react to RG Kar Murder-Rape case

​Dev’s next film ‘Khadaan’s teaser was supposed to be released on Wednesday. Dev, who is the lead actor and producer of the film, took to social media to announce the postponement of the event. Dev shared a statement on social media writing, “As a team that stands firmly against such atrocities, we have decided to postpone the release of the teaser for our film ‘Khadaan’. At this time, our focus should be on seeking justice for the victim.”

​Tollywood superstar Jeet took to social media to express his thoughts on the RG Kar Muder-Rape case. Reflecting on the incident, Jeet wrote, “We are a day away from Independence Day. But at times a question remains, have we truly achieved freedom?” Jeet asked, “Why women in our society are still targeted? Why do such heinous crimes still happen? What should we do as a society to put an end to such crimes?”

​Ace Tollywood actress Rituparna Sengupta too has registered her support for ‘Reclaim the Night’, a protest programmer which has been ideated demanding safety of women at the workplace. As the protest has gained momentum and become a nationwide outrage, Rituparna has extended her support to the protesters in Mumbai as well.

​Swastika, one of the most politically aware artists of Tollywood, has been vocal about the RG Kar Murder-Rape case since its beginning. From calling out the culprits to registering her dissent, Swastka has done it all. The actress has also shown her support to the ‘Reclaim the Night’ programme that is to be held on the eve of Independence Day, 2024.

​Ushasie Chakraborty, who is a popular face in the Bengal entertainment industry, is one of the most outspoken and politically aware artists in tinsel town. Ushasie, who has earlier been part of several protest rallies, has declared to be registering her support to ‘Reclaim the Night’.

​Sreelekha Mitra has demanded justice for the victim and transparent investigation in the RG Kar Murder-Rape case. The actress, who has been socially and politically aware and vocal time and again, has registered her support to ‘Reclaim the Night’.

​Gaurav, who is a known face in the Bengali entertainment industry, shared a statement regarding his stand on the RG Kar Murder Rape case. Gaurav took to social media and wrote, “I seldom raise my voice in public sphere.. but there are moments when silence is no longer an option, when an event shakes you to your very core, compelling you to speak out.” Gaurav also supported ‘Reclaim the Night’ and wrote, “Kolkata is rising in protest, and as a proud citizen, I stand with my city in unwavering solidarity.”

​Ridhima Ghosh too took to social media to post a statement where she wrote, “The recent incident at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata is both shocking and heartbreaking. This heinous act is a stark reminder of the deep-rooted issues of violence against women that continue to plague our society. We must demand immediate justice for the victim and hold the perpetrators accountable with the full force of law.” Ridhima also stated, “We must fight for a society where women can live without fear, and where those who commit such atrocities are met with Zero tolerance.”
