Former Speaker Somnath's grandson to turn director for the big screen

LA-based scriptwriter Shashwata Chatterjee is gearing up to debut in Tollywood with a horror flick; the movie is likely to be made this year.
It���s all in the genes. An advocate, a maverick politician, former Lok Sabha Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee is clearly a man of many parts. And now, his grandson, Shashwata Chatterjee (son of Pratap Chatterjee), is set to carry the legacy forward, albeit in a different way.The scriptwriter, who lives in LA and has been associated with movies for many years, is set to turn director with a Bengali film.
Avishek Ghosh, whose current project Bharate is already on the floors, has signed Shashwata on for his next. The duo has been friends for many years and decided on their collaboration during their Christmas break together. Says Avishek, ���Shashwata and I are childhood friends. Even though he lives in LA, we are always in touch and met up recently during Christmas in Kolkata. He knows that I have started producing films and told me a story that he had. I loved it and we are making the film soon. It���s a horror movie, but is very different.���
Shashwata, who spends around nine months in LA every year, has been associated with films in the capacity of a writer and actor among other things. A couple of his scripts are now been developed by Hollywood studios. So, what prompted him to make a Bengali film? ���Around 10-15 years back, how many horror movies were made in India? I think the audience���s tastes are changing and it���s a good time to get into movies. Also, Avishek and I share the same passion for cinema. When I heard that he is producing films, I wanted to collaborate with him.���
Shashwata���s family, however, is not privy to the current project at hand. His grandfather, Somnath Chatterjee, too is no exception. ���I didn���t want to tell anyone before coming up with concrete plans. I have worked with some of the biggest studios in the world and know that no matter what plans you make, you can never succeed if your script isn���t right. So, currently, I���m doing my best to put the script together. The film is likely to be made this year itself,��� adds Shashwata. Watch this space for the cast and other details!
